About the Role

The primary responsibility of the CEO is to direct TreeSisters' strategic vision for the future, aligning the team with the mission and charitable objectives to fulfil our purpose.  TreeSisters is seeking a flexible, versatile person with an understanding of strategy and the big picture, able to dig in when necessary and lead the consciousness shift we believe is essential to bring change and save the planet.  We wish to ‘be the change we want to see’.  

Our outgoing CEO has successfully led a complete restructure, built a strong team and created a  broad strategy of global alignment, whilst addressing our mission and the shift in thinking.  She has provided the perfect blend of the traditional masculine and feminine traits.  She has worked with our Founder, the ‘face of TreeSisters’ and the creative force behind much of our work. Our Founder is transitioning into an externally facing role but will need a strong relationship with the person coming in. The successful applicant will be able to manage this, also working well with the Board of Trustees. We expect our new CEO to continue to shape the culture of TreeSisters, working closely with the team, in line with our core values, and role model these values.  You need to lead a large remote team and work as part of a truly global organisation. 

Core accountabilities of the role
  • Board governance - working with the Board to fulfil the mission and strategic objectives, including representing the organisation and reporting to the US Board, a separate legal entity, and the Global Strategic Advisory Board.  
  • Financial Performance and Viability - working alongside our Head of Finance, Board and Committees to ensure the financial health and compliance of the charity.
  • Leading the fundraising function, working with the fundraising team and the Founder to ensure the organisation’s financial health in support of the TreeSisters mission.
  • Communicate the vision of TreeSisters and take steps to make it a reality. Work closely with the operations and marketing teams to deliver a clear vision and direction with people inside and outside of the organisation.
  • Tree strategy and understanding the work we do.  Work closely with the teams working in the field, keeping a watch on activities and making appropriate recommendations to the Board for decision making.  You will not be required to be an expert, although it would be great if you have some expertise.  
  • People and Culture.  Leading the people and evolving the culture are key criteria for this role.  Working closely with the HR Manager, and the culture team, you will help shape TreeSisters.  We are currently on a journey of empowerment via the implementation of ‘SOS’, a non-hierarchical way of organising and working.  You will not be required to be an expert and can shape the way this works at TreeSisters.

  • Financial management and reporting skills, including non-profit
  • High-level facilitation skills, including Boards, Committees and teams
  • High level verbal and communication skills
  • Public speaking
  • High level strategic thinking capability
  • Ideally high-level policy development and analysis experience with knowledge of national and local non-profit law.
