In November 2021, delegates from Persell Ewart & Co. attended 'The UN Climate Change Conference' at the Coming of Parties 26 (COP26).
Leaving concerned yet equally inspired about Earth's future, we decided to take climate action.
It was clear as day, after listening to talks by climate experts from The British Antarctic Survey and social enterprises such as Ecosia, that Earth as we know it will rapidly change over the decades to come if we (governments, companies and the general public) don't do something soon.
The consequences of taking no action will result in a breakdown in ecosystems, mass migration and food shortages – all at a global level. We will see sustained periods of high temperatures, rising sea levels and frequent flash flooding.
So what's this page about?
Well, the aim is to live in a world worth living in. This means a climate with reduced levels of emissions and greater infrastructure for carbon capture. It's the latter part where we feel, as a small company, we should take more action to balance this equation.
By contributing to the global effort of reforestation and natural carbon capture, we will be doing our utmost to slow down the effects that climate change has on ecosystems, people's standard of living and global supply chains.
We have, therefore, decided to work with TreeSisters, who with our financial support, can scale up their tree-planting programmes where needed most (such as the Global South), aiming to deliver what we also want to achieve.
We aim to plant 10,000 trees in our first year as a partner through monthly personal donations from members of the team. One tree costs 45p.
If you're reading this page, you are also welcome to make single or regular individual donations. Everyone's input counts.
We hope this move inspires others to take climate action too, whether it be at a personal or business level.
Who are TreeSisters?
TreeSisters is a UK-registered social change and reforestation charity that places tropical forest restoration into everyone's hands.
Through individuals and businesses that give back to Nature every month, TreeSisters has so far funded the planting of over 22 million trees across 12 locations in Brazil, Borneo, Cameroon, India, Kenya, Mozambique, Madagascar, Nepal and West Papua.
They fund a diverse portfolio of tropical reforestation projects that are ethical, community-led, expand natural forest cover and aim to avoid further deforestation. Projects support local communities and improve livelihoods, protect critically endangered species, and focus on gender parity and the participation of women. They are a direct and measurable way to restore the web of life and mitigate climate change.
TreeSisters are actively encouraging the cultural shift required to grow from a consumer to a restorative culture. The charity encourages feminine leadership by providing resources, experiences and communities that inspire personal and collective action on behalf of the trees.
