Women are the heart of TreeSisters - and you can make a tangible difference to their lives.

A letter from TreeSisters Exec Director Georgina for International Women's Day 2024

To our incredible TreeSisters family,

As we approach another International Women’s Day, it is a good time to pause, reflect and celebrate the journey we've travelled together while looking ahead with hope and determination.

At TreeSisters, our mission has always been twofold: to champion gender equity and to nurture the restoration of our precious Earth. These are not separate endeavours but deeply intertwined. Climate change is not gender-neutral; women and marginalised communities disproportionately feel its impacts. We also recognise that the imbalance of power and the injustices woven into our society have not only led to environmental degradation but also perpetuated the inequalities faced by women worldwide.

This is why empowering women and ensuring their voices are heard in decision-making are integral to restoring balance and reciprocity with nature. And why in our current projects, more than 70% of the participants are women, and more than 7000 women have directly benefitted through our supported initiatives in the past year alone. (continued below)

This International Women’s Day, I am thrilled to announce we are launching our Gender Equity fund. While we've always encouraged unrestricted donations to meet the most pressing needs, we understand that some may wish to direct their support more specifically. People will be called to give to TreeSisters for different reasons, and you may feel drawn to donate in a way that particularly aligns with what is in your heart. This fund allows you to do just that, channelling your generosity towards projects like those led by Kamalha and Ms Doris, where the contribution toward gender equity is profound and tangible.

This year's official UN theme, ‘Invest in women: Accelerate progress,’ resonates deeply with our mission. It underscores the urgent need for investment in building a green economy prioritising gender equity. We invite you to join us in this vital endeavour.

Whether you support our Gender Equity fund or make an unrestricted donation, your contribution matters. It’s a vote of confidence in women’s ability to heal the land and shape a brighter future for all. Together, let’s move towards a world where nature and people flourish in connection, equity and harmony.

With gratitude and solidarity,

Georgina Gorman
