Tree Funding Eligibility Questionnaire

 

Do you have a reforestation project and are wondering if you might be eligible to get funding from TreeSisters?  

By taking this Eligibility Questionnaire and answering yes to all the questions below will confirm that your project matches our list of requirements to qualify. We encourage you to read our Tree Funding Guide below for more details.

 

Before you review the below questionnaire, is the project developed, run by, or supporting indigenous and tribal peoples of the tropical forests?

If yes, we are very interested in this type of project and want to hear more, so please get in touch. Please review the Tree Funding Guide for more details about specific requirements, and send us an e-mail to tell us more about your project to support@treesisters.org

 

Does your proposed project fall under one of the following categories?  

~ Reforestation/afforestation (excluding monoculture plantation) 
~ Ecologically-focused forest restoration
~ Regreening farmlands with trees
~ Forest Landscape Restoration
~Other activities that could possibly help people live in harmony with trees  

 

Is the proposed project taking place in a tropical/equatorial, currently forested or previously forested area/landscape?

 
~ Tropical/equatorial forests are forests under moist climate (tropical rainforest, moist deciduous forest and swamp forests) 
~ Monsoon climate (tropical dry forests)  
~ Savanna climate (tree savannas)  
~Tropical mountain climate (montane/cloud forests) 

 
Is the proposed project taking place in a developing country?

Does the project aim to do one of the following?

 

~ Expand natural forest cover; restore top soil (including land fertility for agriculture)
~ Restore and maintain watersheds; control soil erosion  
~ Avoid deforestation or forest degradation of nearby forests of high conservation value*.

*It entails: primary forests; old growth forests; High Conservation Value Forests (HCVF); Intact Forest Landscapes (IFLs); High Carbon Storage forest.

Does your project directly strengthen local culture and livelihoods?  

Does your project directly foster women's participation or influence? 

Are you primarily growing/caring for broad-leaved trees of multiple mixed species, which are native/indigenous to the region?

 

Production of timber or non-timber forest products for an industrial use is not the primary goal of the project. Is that true?

 

Has the proposed project been in existence for at least 5 years and has it achieved measurable impact(s)? Proven successful, preliminary/past or pilot projects count.

Will you be able to designate reforestation lands/sites specifically for TreeSisters funding to avoid confusion?  

 

Do you have a robust tree accounting and reporting system/method in place?  

 

Most of the funding you need is not to buy large infrastructure or major equipment*, is this true?  

(*Major equipment entails: major agricultural, sylviculture and technical equipment such as tractors and seed drills, and all that's needed to build or renovate a big facility or infrastructure, such as metal warehouse and large offices)

Are you legally registered?  

 

Are you looking for support as a non-governmental or community-based, non-profit organisation/association? 

 

Does your organisation have at least 3 non-executive trustees or directors?  

 

Do you have at least 3 years of financial accounts - externally done or prepared by a qualified accountant?
